Delete your account
You can delete your ScanMyRock account, and everything stored against it, from inside the app at any time and without giving a reason. This page explains how, what gets deleted, and what we keep.
How to delete your account
- Open the Profile tab in the app.
- Tap Delete account.
- Read the list of what is about to go, then tap Delete permanently.
That is the whole process. There is nothing to wait for and nobody to ask: by the time the confirmation appears on screen, the account and its contents are already gone.
If you cannot reach the app, or have lost access to the account itself, email [email protected] with the subject Delete my account and we will do it for you. We will establish that the account is yours before deleting anything. This is a fallback, not the main route.
If you never added an email address, your account is anonymous: it holds no name, no address and nothing else that could connect it to you or to a message from you. There is no way for us to find it on request, and the in-app option appears only once an account exists. Adding an email in the Profile tab is what makes deletion possible.
Deletion is immediate and permanent. A copy may survive a little longer inside encrypted backups until those age out on our hosting provider's own schedule. Nothing is ever restored from a backup except to recover the whole service after a failure.
What is deleted
All of the following are erased permanently and cannot be recovered:
- Your account: the identity itself, your email address and your authentication credentials.
- Your photographs: every photo you uploaded to scan or attached to a find, removed from file storage.
- Your scan history: each scan, the candidates it returned, and the confidence scores.
- Your collection: every saved find, with its nickname, notes, size, value and any place and date you recorded.
- Your onboarding answers and app preferences.
- The record of what you ran. Our internal count of identifications made on your behalf, which we use to bill our own costs, goes with the account rather than outliving it.
What is kept, and for how long
- Analytics and crash reports. Usage events already sent to Mixpanel and error reports already sent to Sentry expire on those providers' own retention schedules. Once your account is gone they cannot be linked back to you. Ask us and we will submit a deletion request to them on your behalf.
- Catalogue photographs. If you agreed to a photo of yours illustrating a catalogue entry, that copy is anonymous and stays in the catalogue. Tell us which photo and we will remove it too.
- Records we are required to keep. Where the law obliges us to retain something, for example a tax record of a purchase, we keep only that record and only for as long as required.
Deleting some of your data, but keeping your account
You do not have to close your account to remove things from it.
- A saved find. Open it in your collection and delete it. The entry goes, along with its photograph, nickname, notes, size and any place and date you recorded. This happens immediately and we cannot undo it for you.
- A scan, or your whole scan history. Email [email protected] saying what you want removed and we will do it, leaving your account and collection untouched.
- A photo used in the catalogue. Email us identifying the photo and we will take it out of the catalogue.
Deleting the app is not deleting your account
Removing ScanMyRock from your device stops it collecting anything further, but the account and its data stay on our servers until you delete them from the Profile tab, or until the account is dormant long enough to be removed under the retention terms in our Privacy Policy.
